Men's Coats

gold trimed coat 001.jpgFull Skirted Coat or Gentleman's Coat

Sometimes a Day Coat as seen worn universally by the affluent and working class alike. The fabrics, trims, buttons and embroidery made the difference in class and station.

The common man's coat we make is of plain coat weight wool or Virginia cloth. It has functional pockets, buttoned cuffs, full pleated skirts and back vent. It is completely lined with an appropriate fabric. This is designed from The Rat Catcher of Parisian Street Cries, Catch Pennys Hogarth and M. DeGarsault. Made of wool with metal buttons  $ 310.  Made of other cloth with metal buttons or cloth covered buttons, to be discussed.

Mens Great Coat

This coat is designed for protection from the cold, the wind and wet for a while. This garment mensgreatcoat.jpgis all of wool and is unlined so that it will dry quickly and still insulate while it's wet. The cape is long enough to come up over a cocked hat like a hood. The collar buttons up over the nose and the cuffs unbutton to come down over the hands. The coat body is mid calf length, buttoning the whole way down. At the coats side are openings to access your waistcoat pockets or to put a sword through. These are covered with button flaps.

This is a composite from Hogarth's "Canvassing For Votes" and Penicuik Drawings of The Volunteer Sentries. $250
